These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Veld, a wildlife sighting and identification app provided by us ("we", "our", or "us"). By downloading, accessing, or using Veld, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. Eligibility

Veld is not directed at children under 13, and you must be at least 13 years old to use it. By using the app you confirm that you meet this requirement and that the information you provide to us is accurate.

2. Your account

You sign in to Veld using Google Sign-In. You are responsible for maintaining the security of the account you use to access Veld and for all activity that occurs under your account. Please notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Use Veld for any unlawful purpose or in breach of these Terms
Upload content that is illegal, harmful, or infringes the rights of others
Attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorised access to the service
Use automated means to scrape or harvest data from the app except as expressly permitted
Misrepresent wildlife sightings in a way that could mislead conservation efforts

4. Your content

You retain ownership of the photos, notes, and sighting records you create in Veld ("Your Content"). By uploading Your Content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive licence to store, process, and display it for the purpose of operating and improving the app — including sending photos to our AI identification provider as described in our Privacy Policy. You are responsible for ensuring you have the rights to any content you upload.

5. Species identification

Veld uses AI to suggest species identifications. These suggestions are provided for general interest and may be inaccurate or incomplete. Do not rely on Veld for decisions where misidentification could cause harm (for example, determining whether a plant, fungus, or animal is safe to touch or consume). Always exercise your own judgement and consult an expert where appropriate.

6. Subscriptions and payments

Veld offers an optional paid subscription ("Veld Pro"). Subscriptions are billed through your app store account and are managed by it. Pricing, billing periods, and renewal terms are shown at the point of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled through your app store before the renewal date. Refunds are handled according to the policies of the relevant app store.

7. Third-party services

Veld relies on third-party services (including Google Firebase, Google Sign-In, Google Gemini, Google AdMob, RevenueCat, and PostHog) to operate. Your use of the app may be subject to those providers' terms. We are not responsible for the practices of third-party services.

8. Intellectual property

The Veld app, including its name, logo, design, and software (but excluding Your Content), is owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any right to use our branding without our prior written permission.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

Veld is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that species identifications will be accurate.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Veld. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

11. Termination

You may stop using Veld at any time and delete your account from within the app, as described in our Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or if we discontinue the service.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
